The reason you see them on track cars is because the cooling (weight saving) benefits of slotted/drilled rotors really only show themselves under extreme use like track days or towing. They also tend to accompany a more aggressive pad.
If your plan is street use only, you're looking more at a cosmetic look than function.
But upgrading brakes is wise, especially if you plan to mod your car in other ways to improve performance. You might also consider larger rotors/calipers if your wheels have enough clearance. Several of the brake companies offer Bigger Brake Kits (BBK), that include everything you need + throw in stainless steel brake lines and a set of pads (or two). As far as what doesn't look cool, painting stock calipers (or rear drums) a bright color like red, to mimic the look of big brake kits like StopTech, Brembo, or Willwood. It looks kinda cheap.
