brake pad replacement

I installd new pads on my 96 I30T and found that the braking is poorer now. I can stop but I have to push the pedal almost all the way to the floor before the brakes engage. Although if I pump the brakes a couple times first the braking becomes better. How come this is.

Sounds like you need to bleed the brakes.
