Need to replace the rear pads on my wife's pathfinder. Is there a general consensus for they best pads for the pathfinder? Average use (no real towing), must be safe and reliable for family use. :)

I've always used the Nissan factory pads. I have 479,000 miles on Pathfinders, so I've changed them a few times. I seem to
get better mileage than folks report for aftermarket pads, even though about 70,000 of those miles are towing my boat
trailer.

BTW, the engineer at Nissan who designed the swing up calipers deserves an award. The PFs are the easiest vehicle to
change pads on that I've ever owned.

i30daretodif, R50 Pathfinders have rear drum brakes. Are you sure you need new brake shoes? My Pathfinder has 137k miles and is still on all original drum brake hardware.

No, MILES. I bought an '87 on Dec 31 1986, traded it at 130,000 miles in '95, traded the '95 at 130,000 miles for an '01 that's at 219,000 miles. And a total of about 70,000 miles on the '95 and '01 have been towing a 2000 pound boat trailer.

Never had to do rear brakes on any of the PFs.

My '01 is a stick shift, no power valve (and 10 more HP).

Aren't factory pads (at least on VQ35DE R50s) manufactured by Akebono for Nissan?

I've been fairly content with Wagner ThermoQuiet pads I got for cheap after AAP discount & rebate. They make a little noise when damp and cold lately, but that might be fixed by relubing the slide pins and contact points. My rear drums really need some lube, they are loud quite often lately.

Next pads I might try Akebono pads since they're also inexpensive after discount codes at AAP.

CHUCK T...thanks for the info

I bought thermo quiet pads from the ROCK AUTO sales...cheap
I hope they are good...favorite picks at ROCK AUTO
so I got the WAGNER PD691 for $ 7.42 (x2 sets)

and the WAGNER QC691 for $ 16.18

good deal...next cheapest would be EBAY... ;)

Sorry, I assumed we were talking about a 1996 - 2004 Pathfinder since those are the most commonly owned on this forum. 2005 - 2012 Pathfinders do indeed have rear disc brakes.

You can't go wrong with OEM pads, and Chuck's experience backs that up for sure.
