Wassup guys,
I noticed that when I press my breaks from a very slow roll, I can hear a kind of metal grinding noise. It's not like the screeching noise you get when the pads are needing to be changed. It's more like a very faint grinding sound. I am curious as to if this is usually because I come from a cold start or just normal brake noise ? Thanks :gotme

I think that's normal. You probably hear it when it's cold out too right? I only hear it when it's cold outside (during winter)

It might be the rust getting scraped off the rotors...Or its just freaking cold out there:)) Don't worry about it, as long as it brakes well without vibration your good.

Hey guys I purchased a '07 M45 from carmax and they told me the grinding in the breaks was normal, but I took the car to the infiniti dealer and had them to check out everything so I could have carmax fix the issues within the 30 day window they give you for covered repairs. Infiniti said the breaks were reconditioned and the wheels were bent. They also told me there were no shim kits on the aftermarket breaks, which caused the grinding noise. I said all that to say this if you get a car from carmax take it to the local dealer and have them find all the bugs for you. As for me I sold that lemon back to carmax and purchased a '08 M35S from the infiniti lot. I love my car, and my breaks do not grind. Good luck :)

Thanks guys for the input. I was just curious to see if this was a common thing.

Wow they tried to sell you a POS ? Good thing you got it straightened out. But I take my car to get service at the dealer that i brought it from for for oil changes. They do those complimentary inspections of all that. They've never mentioned anything about me needing a break change. So I guess I'll just chill until I hear something or feel it shaking

Noise common on cold brakes.
Another culprit could be if the rotor was resurfaced and they failed to lightly sand the shavings off of the rotors before installing them back on. The metal can get embedded into the pad.
The type of pads you have on there could also be a factor.
Nothing to worry about if the sound goes away when the brakes warm up.
