My 2004 G35 sedan makes a loud humming noise while braking in reverse only. If I apply the brakes hard enough, the noise does not usually occur. Any ideas as to what would cause this noise only when braking in reverse? I was thinking of applying noise brake squeal compound to the shims to see if that helps. Another theory of mine is the pads are too hard (metallic as opposed to ceramic). Don't really know enough about brake pads to be sure if that is a valid point. By the way, rotors and pads look nearly new.

Just found that there was a TSB sent out in Jan. 2004 regarding this problem, so apparently the dealer knows how to fix it. Guess I'll be taking it in to get it fixed unless I can do it myself. Anyone know what the TSB entails? (TSB # 03069A)

TSB indicates I simply need to replace the two front outer brake shims and apply some PBC grease to the shims and pads. I plan on ordering the parts and grease from the dealer in the next day or so. By the way, I've heard that some members have had TSBs covered by the dealer at no cost. Is this accurate? I know recalls are covered, but didn't think TSBs were.

Anyone know of a website where I can order inifiniti parts, specifically the brake shims I need to fix my noisy brakes (TSB)? Only website I have found is Sewell. Also, the TSB says to use Nissan PBC grease and brake cleaner. Is this really necessary, or can I just use regular brake cleaner and brake compound from the auto parts store?
