Hello all first post. I just installed new pads and rotors from Brake Motive on the front of my 2009 M35. They brake smoothly until the very end of the brake cycle then they make a grinding sound. I haven't completed the recommended break in period yet because I'm worried that I may mess the rotors up. Is this normal for these rotors and pads before break in? I called their customer service and they weren't able to shed any light on the matter. Thanks for any insight.

I've never had noise (I've done these twice now) like you describe. I had a friend who was doing the same thing and was getting noise. It turned out that he hadn't fully tightened and torqued his wheels. After he did it, the noise went away. Also, did you check that you had smooth travel on all of your caliper pins and that nothing was binding? The other question was whether you installed the caliper springs correctly and whether they might be causing the noise?

I am on my second set and have not had the noise that you described.
Sounds like a stuck caliper - you should regrease your pins and make sure that things are torqued up appropriately.
There was a thread on how one of the members had some difficulty getting the pins to go back in after he cleaned and regreased them....may want to search that up. good luck. Craig

I've got a few thousand on my first set. They don't "grind," but they do make a whooshing sound during spirited braking until below 20mph or so, then they are very quiet.

They are cross drilled and this is not common with cross drilled rotors, perhaps that explains some of the discrepancy you guys are talking about.

Given the chance again, I'd prefer to lose the noise and have the extra braking surface of a smooth set of rotors. Cross drilling and venting are really only for those that brake hard and frequently and need to keep them cool; in my opinion it's better to have higher quality brakes than those that cool quickly. If you need to quickly cool the brakes on your m45 on regular roads, you should probably check your driving!
