Hi everyone.

I need to replace my brake master cylinder on my 93 J (it has been confirmed by the mechanic that did my Inspection that the master cylinder is bad).

I am thinking of getting one from a salvage yard, because I found that two have them for 40.00 and 50.00 US.

My questions are:

Will the salvage part be o.k.? or should I just buy a new OEM?

If the salvage part is o.k. to buy, do I need to buy the OEM brake master cylinder repair kit for seals or O rings (if applicable) or for anything else, or will the cylinder itself be all I need?

I have never done it before, but I will still attempt it. I will have some help from my brother who knows a little more than me about cars.

If possible can anyone post some clear directions for the 93 J procedure.

And please post some recommendations if the salvage part is not a good choice.

Thanks,

Geoff.

it is not a common problem with our cars, so if you find one in a junk yard with low milage on it, go for it, and condition the seals before the install.... but again, you cant go wrong with a new one from the stealership, i guess it would come down to price difference and reliability at this point

about the procedure, it should be relitavely easy, i've seen the 300zx master cylinder being changed in less than an hour at a local shop... so if they are the same, then it shouldnt be hard

i hope this helps, please post pics of the install

O.k. I've been asking a couple of mechanics, and they have said that a salvage yard part would not be worth it because it could have endured too many harsh weather conditions and the master cylinder is too important to play with.

So I am going to try an aftermarket part since the OEM is too expensive.

If an aftermarket part would not be worth it, please anyone, let me know. If someone can, please let me know what would be a good aftermarket brand.

If someone can, please post some easy to follow directions for the procedure.

Thanks,

Geoff.

No rebuild kit for it ??Its usually just dry rotted seals.
