Just finished rebuilding my calipers with factory rebuild kits (from Joe @ Scottsdale Infiniti).

Expected to find new washers for bolting on the brake lines. None there!!! Manual says to replace after removal!!!

Is this critical? and if so, then why aren't they included with the rebuild kit that requires removal of the calipers to complete???

Thanks,

Matt

They're probably crush-washers to ensure a good seal when they're torqued down, similar to the ones on the oil pan bolt. I recommend getting new ones from the dealership, but truth be told, I reused 'em when I did my brakes. I think the concern here is with a slow leak, not a catastrophic failure of any sort.

Make sure they are clean, the copper is soft and can be embedded with pieces of crap. I use a buffer wheel on my grinder to clean up the compression rings (very lightly) followed with ScotchBrite purple. Ultimately new is best.

Thanks,

I'll buy new and swap out the old. Local dealer will get that business, can't be more than a couple of bucks anyway. I'm a bit pissed that everything Infiniti didn't suggest those when they sold me the rebuild kits in the first place. Shouldn't that be part of the rebuild kits? It is an off vehicle procedure. I'm sorry if I sound a bit demanding, but I've come to expect logical thinking from Infiniti.

I'm going to re-bleed the system anyway to flush the clean Valvoline Synthetic BF with ATE Super blue.

thanks again, Matt

Most of the time (at least on my wider wheels) there is a slight leak... it just leaks onto the back of the wheel and thats the end of it... I can live with that, plus it reminds me to replace my brake fluid.....

Thanks for the input.

I'll go ahead and replace the Cu washers anyway. I can't afford to let even a small seep go . With my work schedule I can go from relatively normal hours to months of 100+ hour weeks at a moments notice.

Example:

I tore into the J 4 months ago and am just now getting back to putting it back together. Meanwhile the family has been riding around in the boat hauler. 01 3/4 ton 8.1L 4.10 gear having, and according to the sign left on the windshield the other day at Trader Joe's a "Gas Hog SUV."

This cost me some serious bucks in gas.

I need the J to be a bullet proof for the family. Soon it will be.

I'll post the 90K major maintenance blitz when I'm through in the next couple of weeks.

Matt
