brake lights work tail lights don't

Hey there,

Me and my boy are working on his 240... but he keeps getting pulled over cuz his tail lights don't work Though strangely enough his break lights work... can anyone comment on why this is happening and how we can fix it... i feel that the wires are fine and i might have something to do with a fuse or possibly a relay... or am i total off the mark??

I had a similar problem on my '89 SX. Remove the tail light housing and take a look at the jumpers running from bulb to bulb. On my car the jumpers were fastened to the housing with screws. Apparently the screws had loosened over time. It was obvious that the connections had been heating up because it had started to melt the plastic housing. I cleaned up the connectors, used longer screws, and added a metal washer between the connectors to give a little more surface area for the connection. I haven't had any problems since.
