Been a while since I checked in, good to see all of those sponsors!

I've been using my 1990 Q as a Sunday driver in the last couple of weeks, and just realized that my brake lights aren't working! Could this be a case of a bad fuse, or is there a system that tells all of the lights to go dormant in one isn't working? Can't imagine that all three bulbs blew at the same time.

Please let me know what you think, Thanks,

JEC

Can you shift out of P in to D or R without pressing the shift lock button?

Every once in a while, the trans lock does "pop" up, making the shift from Park only doable after holding the button down.

For the most part, the lock stays off and the button on the shifter knob does not spring into place.

My thanks to you gurus for your input!

I'd guess that it's a bad brake lamp switch unless you're blowing fuses. If you're blowing fuses, check the socket assemblies for corossion or melted lead tips on the bulbs. It's a good idea to use only OEM or Sylvania LL bulbs, as others tend to pull more current and the system appears to be marginal and can't handle any additional load.

Do you recall ever hearing a "pop" in the radio, especially in colder ambient temperatures, when you press the brake pedal? That was a symptom that I had for several months before the switch finally died.

Heath:

No "pop" when braking, but to tell the truth, the car has been in the garage and only taken out on Sundays for a quick run for the last two months. Before that, no lighting problems.

I've got the day off tomorrow and will try to replace the fuse and hope it is something that simple. I do have the factory maintence manual and will give it the once-over as well.

Thanks again,JEC
