Brake lights stay on when lights are on

Hello everyone,

I have a 96' Nissan HB 2.4L and I am having trouble with my brake lights staying engaged while my lights are on. I thought it would be that harness switch underneath the dash right next to the brake pedal that engages the brake lights when you depress the pedal. I replaced that, however, the problem is still there. I also noticed that when ever I engage the brakes my dash lights come on. Now, I will say that the previous owner installed a wiring tow harness in back. I am wondering if this could have caused a problem with the lighting system and if so, how do I fix it? Uninstall the harness kit and install an OEM one?

Yes, take that harness out. It is back feeding current in the dash and brake light circuits. I had the same thing happen on my 97.
