If the brake lights are stuck on regardless of key position, is it pretty safe to assume that it is the switch behind the brake pedal?

Its a good place to start, but assume nothing.

I just don't see anything in the haynes or chiltons manuals schematics that could cause the lights to stay on but that switch. I'm open to suggestions on where to look before I try to fix it tomorrow.

Like I said, start there. I also remembered something. There is a nylon button on the pedal arm that contacts the switch plunger. I have seen those fall out and the switch is no longer depressed. It can be replaced with a nut and bolt.

Cool, I'll look and see if that is the issue, thanks. The switch is normally open when depressed if I remember right, so losing the plastic nubbin could easily be the problem. I appreciate the tip.

The more common issue is the plug on the pedal that depresses the switch turning the brake lights off when the pedal is up deteriorated and the pin just slides through the hole and the brake lights never go off.

The nylon nubbins have popped out. I'm going to put bolts through the holes with blue lock tight and call it fixed. Is the cushion of the nylon an absolute must?

I think I'll 3M Tape a leather pad to the back of the bolts, give it the luxury custom look lol.

Do you really think Nissan would have purposely drilled a hole in a piece of metal and then filled it with a nylon bumper if they didn't think it was necessary?

Putting a bolt in there is stupid.

Not if it is padded. I did actually think about side loads on the switch. Thanks for your input.
