My car (90 240sx fb) brake lights are not functioning right and I don't have a clue what to do. First of all lets say that if I had my lgihts turned off and were to press the brake; my parking light (tail lights, side lights, and turning signal lights ) will come on and go off when I let off it ( that may be normal but I don't think it is b/c I never noticed it before). Second - If I had my lights on and were to press the brake down my brakes lights would only slightly get brighter and not noticable. All my light bulbs in the rear has been replaced. I just recently replaced my trunk light b/c I thought it would help indicate that I am stopping, but it stays on all the time ( when my lights are on). Does it suppose to come on when you use your brake? Any clue how i can fix or suggestions ? :help

Have you done any wiring on the car or worked on anything lately, that you could have messup something?

You definately have some wiring problems. The turn signals should not come one when you hit the brake. It sounds like the wires are crossed with the brake light circuit. You'll need a wiring diagram.

You say that when you have the lights on and hit the brake the lights only get slightly brighter. Can you tell if the signal lights get a little brighter too?

Sort out the wiring from when you did the brake light. I am guessing you probably wired it wrong in there.

Wow, Jadius I am having the EXACT same problem, and I haven't a clue on how to fix it. Good luck to you in your search to fix it and I please hope that if you do find out the problem, that you can post it on here. I can't believe someone is having the same problem as me. Although no harm is being done to the car, it is rather annoying. I own a 92 FB SE.

The only thing I have done other than put in new trunk lights ( last week) is that I replaced the rear tail light and turn signal light a month before because it was out and I didn't know my problem that I having now.

Yes the brake lights slightly get brighter but not even enough to tell when it is dark out unless you really staring at my lights hoping it to do something. I don't know if my signal lights get brighter too, but I do know that my slightly brighten with my lights when I hit the brake. I got pulled over here the other day for my lights but the cop was pretty cool he just told me to have it fixed and he thinks that they are some how stuck on. Also I don't know if this will help but I was hit a few weeks back in the rear, but no severe damage ( Just dented bumper and messed up my driver side rear Quarter pannel). The driver said that he didn't see me stopping and my brake lights wasn't working, so I don't know if it was out then or he wasn't paying attention and hit me.. People follow me all the time I am sure they would have told me that my brake lights isn't working.

sounds to me like the bulbs are either wrong or in correctly. what happens with a two post bulb when its installed incorrectly, the post that recieves the brake light signal actually touches off to the other pin in the socket, therefore sharing the power to the taillights and such and emulates the same type problem youre having now. ive seen it before
