JUST GOT PULLED OVER CAUSE MY BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T WORK. THE TRUNK MOUNT IS WORKING BUT THE LEFT AND RIGHT IS NOT FUNCTION. CHANGED ALL 1157 BULBS AND CHECKED ALL FUSES. ANY ADVICE? COULD IT BE THE BRAKE SWITCH OR BRAKE SENSOR?

There's a relay mounted on the back side of the drivers side tail light:

or depending on the year of your Z:

It's a common failure item.

I have the same problem with the hatch brake light working, while the left and right brake lights are not. The fuse is fine and the lights work. I tried to check the fusible link by the battery but couldn't open up or remove the brake lamp link to get a good look at it, but it looked fine through the clear plastic cover on it.

Before buying the relay, I just want to make sure you guys think that's what the problem is?

I had a problem with my brake and tail light sensor. I had 2 resistors in it blow, because I had 2 bulbs installed into my side makers (they were just reflectors before) to pass my inspection after importing it. They were just wired into the existing tail light wiring. I just soldered in multiple resistors in parallel to equal the same value of the original resistor, so it could handle more amperage. Worked, but it gets a little warm/hot, so I'll have to look into fixing that sometime. Any idea which one of those two brake and tail light sensors I would need for my 1991 TT (I am JDM)?

Yes it seems to be kind of a common problem, especially with 2+2's if the hatch leaks. Good job searching!

i had the same problem,i took apart the green box and found bad solder on the circuit board.
so i broke out my handy-dandy soldering iron and carefully resoldered the board.(sorry,i was in a hurry and didnt take pics)
i still get the idiot light on the dash but my brakelights function normally.its alot cheaper than replacing the green box and only takes a few minutes.
