brake lights don't turn on

short story....bought the car 3 days later the battery died b/c the brake lights stayed on.replaced the switch, noticed the brake harness was already replaced and covered in electrical tape.looked even closer and the film around the wires is all burnt up into the harness and made the wires stick together....

when i replaced the switch i noticed the brake lights came off.... but now the taillights work but no brake lights.

what should i check for?

i thought the brake light switch connected directly to the main harness. are you saying your main harness is fried? pictures would help alot.

well did you try separating the wires or replacing it if the wire are burnt then you going to have a short somewhere. check the fuse and relays.

its a 91...with a 96 KA

Sounds the the rubber bump on the back light switch fell off possibly. The switch on the pedal itself. Also try looking in the FSM under the EL section. The brake lighting is a very simple section.

^^^ the rubber is still there for the brake.. but not the other switch (cruise control)FSM? factory service manual?el? electrical?
