Brake lights and gear shift

Urgent question. My brake lights won't turn on. Back story recently my button broke and while I wait for a new one I folded some card paper and it has been working to keep them off. Then my car started dying whenever it was freezing outside and I had to jump it. Now I get in the car and I cant shift out of park unless I press that Lil button and my lights are out in the back completely. But when I remove the paper they come on and stay on thinking of replacing the tail light fuse what to do?

Well I fixed it I made a new make shift button for the brake switch using cotton and take just till my part arrives and everything is working even the gear shift
