I have a 1990 240sx and have recently found that my brake lights stays on even when I turn off my engine and pull the key out of the ignition. I really didn't know to start so I just looked under my steering wheel and see if there was any button or switch the brake pedal was connected to. I found two cylinder looking devices, one with a white button like object on it. This one didn't seem to do anything whether I pressed the white button or not. There was also another device right next to it which looked similar but didn't have the white button. Does anybody know if those are the switches for the brakes? Any advise would help. Thanks.

i'll let someone else type it all out cause i don't want to type it again right now....something along the lines of checking switch position, the switch itself, the grommets on brake pedal

Thanks for the pics, now I know what those two switch things are. Looking at the pic the A.S.C.D switch(I have no idea what that stands for) is the switch that seems to have the white button on but the stop lamp switch doesn't have one. I wonder if that means I have to change the whole switch? Does anyone know if its supposed to have like a button on the stop lamp switch too. I was looking inside my car but couldn't find a anything that might have fallen off from the switch. I'm hoping I won't have to change out the switch because it looks like a real pain to take it out.

On the brake pedal, there is a plastic little thingy. This thingy pushes a little switch that will turn the brake lights on or off. I have had this happen to 2 of my 240sx's. Stupid plastic s hit breaks after a while. Just put a bolt with a nut in its place and you shuld be good to go.

i got the pic off a european 200sx s13 factory service manual. someone made a pdf of it and that's where i got it, i forgot where, but i have to look it up, it's 16 megs big.

it's only useful for anything not engine related because this manual is for the CA18DET. Unless you happen to have a CA18DET....

otherwise, I think this manual is useful for just about anything else

A.S.C.D = Automatic Speed Control Device (Cruise Control, the japanese like to really speel things out it seems).

yeah, ascd is cruise control, i'm sure it's the green colored switches when you have to mess with them. usually the switches need adjusting when your cruise control won't come on because of the same reasons your brake light stays on. there's also an ascd switch on the clutch pedal.

when you adjust the switches, just screw it in enough so that they touch the pedal and not apply pressure because then you'll have no freeplay and might be applying pressure.
