Wassup everybody, i have a 96 I30 and the brake lights are giving me issues. About four to six months ago i uninstalled the remote starter that i had installed a while ago. Ever since then i added Indiglo Gauges. After the gauges i notices my brake lights acting up. Recently, my interior lights have started acting up along with the exterior brake lights. When i brake the indiglo gauges turn on very dim, and the stereo and climate control displays go out as in blank. First, only one brake light wouldn't turn on, dismissed this being a problem early on because i still had three others. Then another one went out, all had good bulbs becasue i replaced them all. Then a third and final one went out and now the three that went out don't work properly at all. Although they do light, the three light up very dim when the parking lights aren't on, but when the parking lights are on they don't light unless you press the brakes. Almost as if they aren't getting enough voltage. I tried to clean the sockets but it doesn't work. Although i did find that when i wiggled the wire farther and farther away from the socket, the tail lights would miraculously work normally for a few hours, but then i discovered that everytime i brake, the front foglights come on and the gauges light up very dim, and the Stereo display and Climate control displays go out. Somebody please help me out.

If the problems came about after a specific mod, then logic would dictate unistalling that mod; and if that step did resolve the problem, figure out what (if anything) went wrong on the install.

As segey said, sounds like a voltage drain somewhere.

Also check the grounds to the lights. The dimming can be a sign of a bad ground or no ground at all. The lights can pull current from other sources(radio, gauges, etc) and can cause heat in the wires, burning insulation possibly causing a fire (not good). Check the wiring diagrams for ground blocks and trace the wires down.

Hope this helps.

Aright, the gauges are out completely disconnected. Sadly, this didn't solve the problem. I dosconnected the battery from the car completely so to reset the ecu and remove all current from the car. Somebody gimme more ideas. Ill check the grounds on the tails tomorrow. Thanks for the response peace.

Thanks a bunch man, quick question where are you getting this wire diagram from? An online source, a service manual? Cause im interested in completly wiring the brake system again (temporarily) so i can start driving it again, until i figure out the real problem. I really appreciate the help. Thanks again.
