I recently got my 240SX, a 1992 Coupe, and the only thing really wrong with it is that the Brake lights do not turn off by themselves.

If I park the car and turn the car off, the brake lights still stay on. Someone told me to checked the fuses and the brake fluid level. I did and there are no problems there.

The only way I can turn them off, so I do not drain the battery, is to disconnect the connector to the sensor by the brake pedal. I therefore think that it has something to do with that sensor, but I do not know what to do from there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I am talking about the brake(stop) lights on the rear off the car that brighten when you push the brake pedal down.

Check the brake pedal where the switch plunger contacts the pedal arm. A rubber grommet comes apart and falls out and the brake switch plunger goes through the hole and never turns the switch off and the brake lights stay on.

Replace the rubber grommet. I had this same problem on a 1988 Nissan Sentra. Hope this helps!

well fellow NICO members, I know that this is a really old post, but I think it needs to be brougt up

1. because I need to make sure I'm on the right track and 2. if anyone else happens to have this problem soon, they'll see this post

Just as the originol poster said, My brake lights wont go out, even when the rest of my car is completely off, this just happened last night, and I saw someone say something about a "rubber grommet"?

well, is this the piece? Is this what I have to get a new one of, to fit in the whole behind the brake switch? I found it on the floor by my brake

Yes. Look at where the switch meets the pedal and you'll see why you need that part.
