When you push down on the brake pedal, the switch is pushed in, and the brake lights turn off. Over the years this rubber/plastic part dries out and can break or fall off, meaning that the brake lights are on all the time, even when the ignition is off and the keys are out of the car.
This can be fixed by expoxying a new metal plate or switch in place of the old one, which isn't that hard to do, but remove the driver's seat first or there's no way you're going to be able to see what you're doing under there.
And E7-S14, what's with the annoying girl in your signature?

If you lost the rubber grommet, then get a nuta nd a bolt and put it in the hole where the grommet is and make sure the head of the bolt is hitting the switch. I did that for my clutch switch. Car wouldnt even start.

op, listen to what datte said, check the brake fluid level, chances are you are just low. if it is and it comes back on a little while after you fill it, then you have a leak you need to track down and repair. good luck.
