My emergency brake pedal is not pushed down. I know on newer cars this light comes on when the brake pads are worn or brake rotors. Is this the same with this car. For instance, when i brake while at highway speed (65mph of course) it shakes and vibrates like hell. Does this normally indicate bad rotors

Check your brake fluid level.

You probably need to replace your pads and rotors too.

Yea I would bet your rotors are warped and the pads are worn.

my girls father checked it today and he said he didnt see a problem with the rotors or pads. Pads were changed about 6000 miles ago. So i will check the fluid tomorrow.

You might also try grounding the sensor for brake pad wear since most shops don't replace it with the pads and it gives you the warning 24/7

If you have a bad shaking like that then your rotors are shot, and only [insert deity] knows how your pads are. Very simple fact.

The pad sensor give you a message in the message center not the "brake light". I'd say more likely fluid. Double check your parking brake as well, if it's even pressed a small amount the light will turn on. I've bumped it a few times getting in or out and it's came on. Pull the handle and pull up on the park brake lever with your hand to make sure it's all the way up.

The other symptoms do indicate you need new rotors or at least have them turned and get new pads.

Weird, mine always just says "Brake Pads Worn" in the little "information center".
