Brake light illuminated on dash after e-brake is released

i have a 91 nissan 240sx LE and the brake light just one day decided it wanted to stay on after i released the e-brake. it has stayed on ever since. the e-brake is released. i dont feel any dragging or need any extra effort on the gas pedal to drive. any help would be appreciated.

First and fore most, check your brake fluid level. If it is low and below the sensor level, move to second step.

Second, take out your center console. If you look at the bottom of the e-brake handle, you will see a little switch. More than likely that switch has come apart or fallen off the e-brake handle. It is has, either secure it back on, or get a new switch. Some of us just ground it out (leave it off) instead of getting a new switch.
