i recently came from the dealer and they informed me that my front pads and rotors needed chaging. they wanted 500 to do it. i told them no, because i can buy the parts through a friend and do the install myself. however, i noticed that when driving fast, anmd suddenly getting on the brakes, the brake light on the dash comes on, is this a warning that my pads are running low or a sensor issue? another thing is, does it matter if i get aftermarket drilled slotted rotors and just use dealer pads. i have a 2003 g sedan.

the brakes on 04's and down sucked...and we usually have to replace pads and rotors within 20k. The brake light usually comes on when the brake fluid is low so check that...Drilled and slotted rotors aren't going to do too much...they are mainly for show...even tho i have some on my car but...nonetheless they look good and are usually cheaper than factory ones from the dealership

will it effect performance if i get the drilled slotted aftermarket rotors? i'm looking to avoid brake noise, but i plan to get dealer pads though. will this combination do me justice? also, can these me resurfaced, or am i better of getting the rotors from the dealer if i plan on resurfacing them for future brake changes?

thanks

one last thing, my slip and vdc off light are also on... any ideas?

thanks again!

check your brake fluid...low fluid can cause those lights to come on

i don't think i've ever seen anyone resurface drilled and slotted rotors...not sure if it can be done or not. you can do the rotors with dealer pads...just make sure the contact points on the pads are lubed really good...

The dashboard brake (!) light on my daughter's 04 G35 is on. I topped of the brake fluid and checked the brake pads front and rear (4 mm or more) yet brake light remains on. Drove the car around the block and checked the brakes...very good braking with firm brake pedal. A couple of days ago, a twig got caught under the car but my daughter was able to remove it. Would that affect the brake light? I wil raise the car tomorrow and check the brake lines. Any other suggestion?

If I recall correctly these lights come on if there is an abs sensor problem. Try searching this. I think I remember a post about this in the past. Good luck. Wes

Hi:

Saw your post. I have a 2004 G35 6MT. When I quickly accelerate, my brake light, vdc and slip lights also come on. After going a short distance the brake light goes off, but I must turn off the car and restart to get the vdc and slip to turn off. Also, I live in MI and since the cold has set in, the car has been very sluggish until it warms up. I have had the car for 2 previous winters, but this is the worst it has been. I have an appt with the dealer for next week. Have you found out what was causing your lights to go on?

Thanks.

THE DEALER TOLD ME MY PADS WERE TOO LOW, AND MY ROTORS NEEDED CHANGING AS WELL. I LET THEM DO IT, BECASUE I WAS TOO LAZY TO DO IT MYSELF. IT COST ME 450 BUT THEY WERE RIGHT.

your brakes are probably low...your light is caused by brake fluid being low and moving around in the MC causing the light to come on under accel
