have a '90 Q45. The center, spoiler brake light works but the others do not. Switch is new. I posted this in the wrong place and go some help. I believe I need to replace the sensor in the trunk. My second question is:The shifter button also went out, at thesame time. You press the 'release' button to get it out of Park. Since the switch is good, could this be tied into the sensor or do i have a second problem? Thanks

Step by step by step troubleshooting proceedures in FSM.

Common for old rear bulbs to destroy bulb sockets if abused long enough it will open the shunt jumpers [were they are soldered to pc board] in rear lamp sensor.

i would 1st test the switch with an electrical tester. if that checks out, then check your shift lock control unit. it's in the drivers kick panel area.

also be sure that the distance between the pedal stopper and threaded end of the stop lamp switch and ascd switch is between 0.3mm and 1.0 mm.

if it is greater than 1.0 mm then the switch will be engaged causing your brake lights to be on without depressing the brake pedal!
