brake light always on, weak brakes

the brake light is always on, the fluid level is okay so I don't know why it's on...

when I drive brake it feels like I can't stop at all. I have to step it in all the way so it can stop

the brake pads are starting to squeak, yes, I need to change the brake pads but that doesn't explain the brake light or the poor brake performance.

what could it be?

Have you tried flushing+replacing the fluid? That is where I would start.

Brake light, plus poor braking performance... no offense but it does sound like a brake fluid level issue to me.

Either that or you have a leak somewhere.

Brakes are nothing to mess around with, if you dont feel confident you can fix it then get it fixed.

I would have you first check the brake fluid level, and look for leaks in the system. Other than that I would guess that i might be the brake master cyl. Those constantly go out.

If you are stopped on a hill. does it require more and more petal travel to keep the car stopped? I.e. does the petal sink slowly to the floor? If so you need a Brake Master

**** there is a leak in the system. I topped off all the fluid including the brake fluid to a little bit below MAX line last month (didn't drive it for 3 weeks) and today I checked it again today and it's way below MIN line

Just a thought, but is the emergency brake "on switch" broken?
