My brakes are squeeking quite a bit, so I think its time for a brake job. I'm tempted to do it myself (never have before). It's obviously easier to take it into a shop to have it done, but I dont want to risk them telling me something that needs to be done that doesnt (sucks that auto shops in general have this rep)....

So, how do I tell if I need to have the rotors turned? How do I tell if the pads are done? Any other thoughts before I jump on this?

'96 i30 with 112k - last brake job was 93k and he said the rears have about 20k to go.

thanks guys for all your help - wish I could contribute more than just asking questions! (perhaps soon!) :)

Measure rotor runout and thickness and pad thickness.

Get a high temperature waterproof lube for the pins, and the shims for the pads.

New brake fluid is good at this time also.
