Hey guys my J30 sat for a year straight, outside, exposed to the weather.

To make matters worse, I left the emergency brake on for MOST of the time. I know, I know, this was an awful thing to do. I didn't think it would be sitting that long, and next thing you know it's been a year, and the e-brake was on for most of that time.

I did the brakes right before I let the car sit, brand new rotors and pads all the way around. I've been driving the car for about 2 weeks now, and expected there to be some rust that would eventually come off, and they would go back to normal.

Now I'm getting a grindring and scraping sound when I hit the brakes, and even when I let off the brakes completely, and I am just coasting along, there is still a scraping noise coming from the rear passenger's side. There is also alot of excess brake dust on that one wheel in comparison to the others.

So here's the question (finally):

What should I buy before I start to take everything apart and try to get this fixed? Buy all new rotors pads all the way around? A rebuild kit for the caliper? A used caliper? Etc.

I work in my driveway, with no power tools and this is my only car, so when I start the project I want to have everything I need if possible.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

THANKS!

It is likely that you floating caliper pin is frozen and the caliper is stuck, take the wheel off and knock it lose and and clean it up good, while you are there, take the rear rotor out to check the hand brake and see if there is anything wrong.

Thanks very much for the quick reply

To get to the caliper pin, do I just remove the wheel, and then do I have access to it, or is it more involved than that?

Also, what should I use to lubricate the pin after I remove it? I have some PB Blaster, it's like WD-40, but I don't think this will work properly.

Thanks again for the help!

The floater pins are inside the caliper. The 2 pins that hold the caliper to its bracket.

When you get em out. Use quality brake lube, not wd40 or pb blaster. However you could clean em wtih some PB first but make sure to dry em off and use the right lube.

Ok I'm probably going to give this a shot this weekend.

Can you give me a quick rundown of the steps to remove them?

I just want to have an idea of the steps so I don't run into a problem and not know what to do next.

Thanks!

Well you said you did the brakes, so its pretty much like a brake job.

Remove the wheel, then remove the caliper by the 2 pins. Easy as that.
