I'm going to replace the master cylinder on "Q2" in the near future and I'm thinking of replacing the brake flex lines at the same time. Should I use OEM or aftermarket Stainless lines? If I use stainless lines, what's the best brand? Where should I buy them?

I've heard of a few breaking - one being on Q45Tech's car(?) so I thought I might as well replace them. Any 13 year old rubber part is suspect even if the mileage is 47K.

Porterfield brakes made mine (steel that is), but I suspect it could much be done much cheaper and easily by yourself. Just need to find a source for the braided lines first. i noticed a different pedal feel immediately. i guess going from 10 yr old rubber to steel makes a difference. just make sure you bleed the heck out of it and put on new copper washers between the caliper and brake lines.

http://www.techna-fit.com does custom brake lines, super high quality and very reasonable prices....talk to Julie over there. I had them do a custom front set for the G20 on a Big Brake kit Im building.

If they dont have your lines the best thing to do is find a donor set that you can send them to replicate. All their lines are Stainless Steel. I highly reccomend them.

Yahnozha,

I followed your advice and ordered the lines today from Technafit. They threw in the clear plastic coating over the braided lines (to reduce trapped dirt between the braids and lines) at no extra charge. I'm also impressed that they're not bending me over for shipping either - a very reasonable $6 from CA to SC!

Thanks for the advice!

Well.... I have gotten the garage cleaned out and put the parts in a neat row along the garage to get ready to put them on. And people thought Christmas was slow!

Hahahaha... money well spent! You know...from here on, you are going to feel guilty about this until they're installed. When you are able to finish however, let us know the results. My car needs them next.
