As the title reads, I have a ton of rust on my brake drum. I went to the stealership and they told me it was NORMAL wear and tear but I've only had the car for about 4 months!! Now I have seen other coupes and late model sedans with no rust at all with more miles than me. It appears to me it only occurs to 2.5's that came with hubcaps cuz the coupes i saw were 3.5's. Anyone else experiencing this same problem? Anybody got any ideas on how to remove the rust or should I fight Nissan to get it resolved?? Here are a few pics to give you a better understanding. Its Driving me NUTS

This happens in high humidity areas like, Florida for example. The hubcaps trap in brake dust, heat, and water. Creating the perfect breeding ground for rust. Nissan won't do anything about this. You can take some naval jelly, apply it to the hubs, wash off with water, then sand it down with sandpaper or steel wool. However, under no circumstances should you apply any of this to the brake rotor face itself. Foreign coatings between the pad and the rotor will lead to a frictionless brake system. Insta-crash.

in case you don't know where to find naval jelly it's located in the hole some refer to as the belly button

TOO FUNNY. Thats some good info adidas, thanks. Do you think painting the drum with caliper paint will prevent rust from forming?

Well, first of, you don't have brake drums, you have brake discs. 4 wheel brake discs. If your referring to the heavily rusted part, that's the hub. Yes, you can paint that. You will have to tape off the disc face itself though, to prevent any paint from getting on the friction surface.

Make sure you sand paper down the hub to the bare metal first, then paint it with some sort of primer based paint. That way, it will stick to the metal well

Looks like its just your wheel hubs... tape a plastic bag over your actual brake rotor and tackle the hub with some rustoleum paint spray. Works wonders for our tools at the firehouse-- just sand down the hub and the rust off as good as you can first.

Like adidas said, do NOT get anything on the rotor or pads!

Good luck!
