Well it's getting to that time of year where people are starting to tow with their trucks. Consequently, I have a boat that I need to add trailer brakes to, and my truck only has the 4 pin harness. I got everything I need to wire it up, but I'm a little confused as far as the red stop light lead running from the brake controller. Essentially this brake controller is looking for +12 when I press on the brakes so that it can start slowly applying the trailer brakes. Through some Googling, I found that our trucks use 2 wires that come off of that momentary brake switch. When remote starts are installed they tap into the green/yellow wire on that switch. I have a remote start, I'm wondering if anyone knows if that's the wire I should be tapping into? Because quite frankly I'd rather cut the remote start wire than cut apart the vehicle wiring a second time for the brake controller. I suppose I could always go out and put a volt meter on it, this kind of stuff makes me nervous though so I have less of a chance of messing something up if I'm bouncing my ideas off other people than going after it solo.

I don't think it really matters, the wire just needs a 12v Hot wire to tap into. Or pierce the wire with one of those test lights that have a bulb in it. Press the brake pedal and see if it lights up, if not try the other wire and if it lights up use that one. That's what i used to figure out which wire went to the turn signals, brake lights, and constant hot and it's pretty simple.
