calipers are supposed to be like that. a general procedure when changing brake pads is to push the piston back into the caliper with a c clamp. as for your other problem, maybe you didnt bed your pads in correctly, or maybe you have too hard of a pad for your application, or somthing else. need details.

...not on the rear. An actuated rear caliper requires you to turn the piston back in coounter cloockwise, and align the little nubs on the brake pad with the holes in the piston..otherwise the pad will bind or (worst case) the piston will get stuck, dragging or possibly damaging the caliper.

chances are if you don't remember using a tool to twist the piston bakc in..you did it wrong.

I would take it off again and check it out..it sounds like you didnt line the nubs up, or turn the piston bakc in, so now the pad is dragging because it's not aligned correctly.

Seriously, i'm on my second set of re-man calipers on the (rear). You'd be surprised how many shops/ so-called mechanics who don't know that you have to turn in the pistons, then they seize up. ..and i ended up paying for it

Forcing the caliper back in is not a good idea. They will end up seizing up everyonce in a while. I had that problem on my first S13 because of stupid people. Everytime I would disenguage my parking brake I would have a caliper hang up. Got tired of carrying pliers with my to unstick the cable. My current S13 139K and still stock rear calipers and they lock up nicely.

well i work in a shop and i used a tool made to turn back in the pistons but it was so hard i had to use a hammer and the tool to get it back it but in, i was wishing it would be or but i guess not, looks like am going to have to get 2 new calapers, i guess while am doing that i might do some cross drills and ss brake lines in the back there.
