Brake Booster Check Valve

Is this thing really nessessary? I keep getting vaccume leaks from this point in the line and would like to just replace the entire line running from my brake booster to the intake manifold. I'd rather just use one line running across but i wasnt sure if the lines coming off the brake booster and the intake mani were the same size, so I ask again, is the check valve needed?

The purpose of the valve is to retain vacuum to make the application of your brakes easier. I wouldn't be removing it if I were you.
