Hey everyone, new owner of a 93 d21 SE v6 4x4.
I just got this truck a few weeks ago and I've been trying to track down a lack of power issue, but today on my way to work, my brake and battery lights were coming on, which I understand means the alternator is going out. Along with that it started running a lot hotter, almost overheating even with the heat blasting. And just for a cherry on top, it seems I've lost power steering.
I'm at work so I can't go out and diagnose things atm, but are these all related? They all happened just within like 20 minutes. I'm not familiar with this engine yet, but it makes sense that one pulley failing could cause the other problems.
Any help is greatly appreciated because I need to take it to work again tomorrow.

Check the harmonic balancer and see if the outer ring is separated from the core. A separated balancer will cause all of that by slipping the pulleys.

PS - Check the woodruff too, and make sure the balancer isn't just freewheeling on the crank.

I didn't even know these things existed until you mentioned them  .
I'll definitely look into those when I get off work.
Are these things easily visualized, or more hidden?

I don't recall how close the crank pulleys are to the radiator on a VG D21. If it's too close for direct inspection, use a mirror. You can test for either condition by holding one of the belts and putting a wrench on the balancer bolt. If you can turn the crank without the belt moving, something down there is slipping.

Yeah I didn't get an opportunity to do a full inspection, but I started it up and I definitely think the crank pulley is the issue. I'm gonna see if it just needs tightening down and I'll go from there. I appreciate the input!
