My wife has a 2010 Nissan Rogue. She told me this summer that there was a banging noise coming from under the hood when she stepped on the brake and the car was cold. I dove it for a week and didn't hear anything. I have driven it one and off over the past 6 months and only once heard the noise; however, Sunday the battery was dead in my truck and I wound up driving the Rogue all day and hearing it.

When sitting at a stop with your foot on the brake you can hear a banging noise coming from the front of the car. It comes from the right and the left side. Not at the same time. They seem to be fairly regular on each side but not with the same tempo. I would almost guess a caliper but I have never heard a caliper make such a noise before and not both sides.

No issues with it stopping right or anything else. Just a weird noise.

Now, I know this sounds strange, but do you happen to have a HID light (factory) on your car?
If so, park the car facing some wall, and turn on the headlight. Step on the brake, if you hear the banging noise and see the light adjusting itself, then you have a short somewhere in the brake light/turn signal wire.
If not, ignore me and see if others can help.

I'll try it and report back. That would be hella weird but cars are known for that.

I wonder if it could be related to the wiring harness recall if that is the case.

Wire harness recall is a different problem I think

The reason I asked you to check, is because it happen on mine, where the front turn signal socket got wet and shorted for some reason (somehow water get in), so it cause the headlight adjustment to keep on turning onto one direction when stepping on brake (they must use the different in voltage to signal the motor to adjust the headlight).
But this only applies to cars with factory HID (Xenon) light that has the adjustment under dash.

its probably the pads dragging while ever so slightly losing grip. its common. its normal in fact.

is the car gently inching forward when you hear this noise?
