Normally when the BRAKE light stays on you need to refill your Brake Fluid .. as far as LIGHT does it light up when you hit the brakes? or is it always on?

That usually means your power system is failing. When my light warning and brake warning were on, my alternator was going bad. When it gave out for good, I had Brake Warning, Light Warning, and Air Bag.

If you have subs/ aftermarket head unit, that's what I would say it is. Even if not, get a multimeter and test voltage across battery terminals with the car running.

Should measure about 14.2V while the car is running. If not, your alternator is most likely dead/dying.

when my alternator was messing up, i had the brake light on. i had check the break fluid, and it was ok. After the alternator blew up my aftermarket alarm and changed the alternator did the break light go off. lol

Hope this helps!

Thank you to everyone who posts constructive responses on this site. I am going to speak on the brake light warning lamp because it seems to be a hot topic. My post in in reference to it coming on and its relation to aftermarket 99' JDM Spec brake lights and third brake light.

Many people say it's always the third brake light and it could very well be but it wasn't for me. I tried all the other ways to fix the warning lamp first. Alternator, tail light sensor, brake pads, brake fluid level, bleed brakes, check wires and harnesses and it did not fix the problem . Then I went to autozone and replaced the third brake light bulbs after I read that the resistance was not enough so it would trip the sensor/warning lamp. I bought 921 bulbs. They are a bit fatter bulbs but they fit the wedge connector just fine and also fit through the bulb housing. This helped but did not fix the problem. I was heading down the right path though. Last I replaced the actual brake light bulbs (4). The after market bulbs say 12V 21W on them. I went and bought some 1157 bulbs that have 12V 27W written on the side and installed them. The warning lamp went off immediately. I also replaced the reverse light bulbs but I don't think those were related to the problem. My point is if you have tried everything and stopped short at the third brake light bulbs, do the regular brake bulbs too. You would be losing 6W of resistance per bulb with the after market bulbs in. Multiply that by 4 and you get 24 W. That's almost one full bulb of resistance that the sensor is looking for. Translation = the car believes one bulb is out so it trips the warning lamp indicator. Lastly check the little side market running lights behind the rear wheels. I almost missed it and one of those were out as well .
I hope this helps. Please comment if I have written anything incorrect or if it helps you.

That's because the '99 JDM tails come with JDM spec bulbs and not north american specs(wattage difference). All you had to do was swap over your old set of bulbs to the new '99 JDM lenses.
