The brake and charge light came on while my wife was driving home yesterday. Now I know what these two mean by themselves, but the combination seemed strange. I have searched around on the forums and it looks like it is the alternator. I have checked the various fuses per the FSM and checked the e-brake release.

Is it something specific to the way Nissan wires their idiot lights that makes them both come on? I have replaced alternators before and it was always a lot more, well, idiot proof about what was needed.

Take your handy VOM and measure running voltage across battery and ripple voltage. Have technican perform all the test with an automatic alternator tester and if battery is 3 years old replace it also.

Life continues as normal. Started the car to take in to the dealer and all lights were off. Charging system passed all diags with flying colors. Probably going to go ahead and replace the battery since it is at least 3 years old (when we bought the car).

Replaced the front pads. Can't wait to pick up the girl. The G35 loaner just is not the same.
