Brake and Batt. light will not go off...any help?

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum so I'm sorry if this was covered somewhere else or posted in the wrong place!

I have a 97 Maxima, about 171,000 miles on it. The brake and batt. light came on about a week and a half ago, shortly after the alternator died. I took it in and got it fixed, but the mechanic said that the battery that was in the car was too small and that I needed to get the right one.

Well I told him I'd change it myself (rather than paying way too much money for him to do it) and he charged the old one and the car was running fine.

Today I was driving and the two lights came on again, and I decided to get the proper battery. Now with the new and proper battery, the two lights won't go off!

Any ideas? Thanks for reading and for the help!

Is the light still on? How far have you driven it since the battery was replaced?
