Well......I've got a problem. I had my alternator rebuilt by a trusted tech 2 weeks ago. Everything has worked great since then.....

HOWEVER, yesterday morning (after a 10 minute warmup) I drive down my driveway (1/4 mile) and get ready to pull out into traffic....and the Q stalls out.

Huh....did the Q just stall.

Look at display and it says "low Batt voltage"...WTH!

So I cautiously restart...starts back up. I turn around and go back up my driveway.

Once home I pop the hood and check the voltage....12.05 volts with the engine running. :(

After my alternator R&R it was 14.5 or so.

SO....my question is this: Is it just the alternator...or is there something else blowing the alt out?

I will take this to my independant tech too.....But I'd just like to know what the possible problems are.

Thanks,

Andy

If your battery is weak, it can take out even a new factory alternator. I'd skip the rebuild and go with a factory reman. I replaced the diode pack and bearings in mine back when I had more time and energy than sense or money - only to have the stator fail in another year. Went with the Infiniti reman, and no problems since. Aftermarket remans are typically just the first time of many that you get the opportunity to R&R the alternator on a Q.

Sorry...forgot some info.

New Batt w/ Alt replacement.

Alt (supposedly) rebuilt w/ correct parts (nissan). I will verify.

Depends on which parts were replaced. Replacing all of the parts DIY is more expensive than a new alternator!

Please check the condition of the battery cables and connectionson each end. A high resistance in the ground circuit will often cause the alternator to fail from current overload.

I have seen lots of poor connections on Q45 cables.

Alternator is ok.....problem was a loose connection at the "flat" plug on the back of the alt.

Oh well I needed the practice R&Ring the alt a second time.....yeah right. :rolleyes
