Well the car is mobile, and another malfunction has been found. Mainly of the transmission nature.

transmission is in malfunction mode, doing the 3rd gear thing.

The JWT TCU is as how I described it previously. Some wires are cut from the rj45 phone jack ethernet jack looking plug. So I think that may be causing it.

I guess the simplest way to find out would be to put a known good TCU in, and see if the error still occurs.

My JWT TCU says "First unit prototype" not for public use.. I think I may have the first one ever or something.

Anyway, the JWT turnaround time is 3-4 weeks for a rebuild, that's if it's even rebuildable.

Anyone have a 90-93 TCU available?

I may have one here in a couple weeks.

TCU and ECU turnaround from JWT is NOT 3-4 weeks. More like 3 months. Trust me, I just got my ECU, still waiting on an ECU and TCU for a customer.

Allow me to Clarify

Turnaround time for a REBUILD is 3-4 weeks. They can do this themselves. According to them, they can't provide the new units themselves, as they have to order them.

"Rebuild" doesn't compute.

I'm saying if you want JWT to do ANYTHING to your TCU, it will be more than 6-8 weeks.

I will have a bone-stock 90 TCU available soon (as soon as my customer's JWT-prepped TCU arrives).

Like it may be fixable. I already have the JWT unit. I'm just not sure if it's functioning properly. I need a TCU to test if the transmission is functioning or not.

The JWT trimode is a 3 postion switch the center position doesn't apply +12 volts to either return wire so if you don't have anything plugged into the RJ socket it should be in normal 2nd gear start!

SO it is an RJ socket...

Interesting

So I do have the trimode... I didn't know look closely at the button to realize it had a center mode. I just saw the sport/normal.

Well I need to rule out this TCU, it looks pretty wrecked. I've ordered a 91 TCU from AAAcomp. If it still enters transmission malfunction mode, then I guess the transmission is blown.

One of the switch positions on the 3 mode TCU results in a constant transmission malfunction indication. Perhaps things are OK?

Mine doesn't have a socket just a 3 wire cable coming out of tcu via a drilled hole with a rubber grommet protecting the 3 wires. Who knows mine arrived in Spring 1994.

911/Q45,

That would be awesome. While I want a level Ten type rebuild, I don't want to pay the 4k at this moment. This transmission should be good, so I'm going to assume something else is at work here.

Glen will have my 91 TCU here shortly, at that point I can determine if its a TCU issue. I am also sending him the JWT trimode to look at.

Do you really need a level ten or do you think and valve body mod on the transmission will work? I'm getting one soon I'll let you know how it goes....

I'm going to go with a different company then level 10. They also provide Valve body mods. I've talked with them extensively, they are very knowledgeable, reply to emails, and claim to have a better product then level 10.
