Read this on ESPN this morning, wanted to see what you guys thought about it. I personally think its ridiculous, it was a freak accident in sports, and in any physical activity there is risk for serious injury.
ESPN wrote:WAYNE, N.J. -- The family of a boy who suffered brain damage after being struck in the chest by a line drive off a metal bat while playing baseball filed a lawsuit Monday morning against the manufacturer of the bat, the store that sold it, and against Little League Baseball for giving the bat its seal of approval.

The family of Steven Domalewski, who was 12 years old at the time of the June 2006 incident, filed the lawsuit in state Superior Court in Passaic County. It names Hillerich & Bradsby Co., maker of the 31-inch, 19-ounce Louisville Slugger TPX Platinum bat that hit the line drive that crippled Domalewski.

The suit also names Little League Baseball and the Sports Authority, which sold the bat. It claims the defendants knew, or should have known, that the bat was dangerous for children to use, according to the family's attorney, Ernest Fronzuto.

"People who have children in youth sports are excited about the lawsuit from a public policy standpoint because they hope it can make the sport safer," Fronzuto said after filing the suit Monday morning. "There are also those who are skeptical of the lawsuit and don't see the connection between Steven's injury and the aluminum bat."

Steven was pitching in a Police Athletic League game when he was hit just above the heart by a line drive. His heart stopped beating and his brain was deprived of oxygen for 15 to 20 minutes, according to his doctors.

Although he was not playing in a Little League game, Little League is being sued because they gave their seal of approval to the bat, certifying it as safe for use by children, Fronzuto said.

Little League denies any wrongdoing, as does the bat manufacturer. The Sports Authority has not responded to several telephone messages seeking comment.

I'll bet they lose big time. Can they prove that a ball hit from a wooden bat would not have caused problems? What about the ball manufacturer? Would a softer ball have been less dangerous. What about the guy that hit the ball, couldn't he have hit it softer, or aimed elsewhere?

I would be willing to bet that that case never sees trial. Blame the attorneys. They steal their living with cases such as this.

One time, I was watching a championship match at an international chess tournament. I tried to keep up with the game, and some brain matter leaked out of my ear. Think I have grounds for a case? I would be suing: the tournament and its sponsors, both competitors, the judges, and the company that made the board and pieces.

Lets see.....The parents thought it was OK for the kid to climb trees, rollerblade and shoot bow and arrow in the house. His dad, the baseball coach, also thought it was OK for him to play baseball. BUT, once something happened, they want to sue everyone.

I have a solution. End all little league sports.

Morons.

The parents should be sued for failing to protect their precious little baby. After all, they placed him in harm's way.

Then again, they're Polish.

Up next to be sued on the case, Earth, for it's atmosphere to allowing the ball to hit him.

How about CPS lock them up for putting the little angle in harms way?

This stuff cracks me up. As left-wing as I am and seen as being politically soft. Its these parents raising their kids to be big, soft babies never exposed to injury and expecting the world to hand them everything to make their fairytale life come true. Its BS.

Very few of us grow up and get the job we dreamed about when we were younger. We get hurt, have scars and sore spots, but we are happy nonetheless.

People of my generation frustrate me.
