Boy Invents Self-Lowering Toilet Seat

Boy's invention drops toilet seat automatically 02.12.04 3.00pm That annoying habit that most men have of leaving the toilet seat up is no longer an issue for women in the Attwood household in Palmerston North.

Ben Attwood, 13, has invented a toilet seat that lowers by itself. No manipulation by the user is required.

The Palmerston North Intermediate Normal School pupil created the contraption after his mum constantly complained about the toilet seat.

At the time, he was looking for a project to do for the school science fair.

A long screw and a kitchen timer, which winds back and allows the seat to drop, form the basis of Ben's invention.

There were only a couple of attempts before he perfected the seat.

His invention caught the attention of the producers of a television programme to be launched next year, called Let's Get Inventin.

They want his invention to feature on the programme, which will be screened on TV2.

Anyway, that is just another one of those useless inventions. Are we so lazy that we can not take the time(2 seconds?) to lower the seat when we are done?

And hey, try not lifting the seat when you pee once. See if they complain the next time you don't put the seat down. Nothing like urin on the bum to change their mind

Hmm... I have a habit of lowering the lid as well as the seat when I'm done. Its just a habit. I guess that makes it even for both males and females since I have to lift the lid also.

Me too. It actually really bothers me when people don't put the lid down. I think it's cause in my bathroom at my parents house, my sister would never put the lid down and the sink was right next to the toilet, which meant **** got knocked into the toilet on a regular basis. That was enough for me to learn to put the damn lid down, and now it's a habit.
