umm.. I hope that SR wasn't running/driven without a BOV or bypass valve, otherwise bad joo-joo for your motor and turbo. You need a BOV, go with a good brand (HKS, Greddy, Synapse, etc.) Re-circ is always best with these motors bc of the MAF system and bc some BOV's are not designed for MAF cars without re-circulation. You can have stalling issues if they are not re-circed. Some, like the HKS SSQV will let you run open atoms. bc of it's design, but mine yielded slightly better throttle response after re-circing it. Hot or Cold pipe has different advantages/disadvantages. Search for those discussions. Most times, people place the BOV on the hotpipe. Searching will yield more info and help. GL.

I doubt it did any damage to the turbo. It's not bad for the engine BTW, it's only a little hard on the turbo depending on how bad the turbine got stalled.

Things like broken compressor wheels, damaged turbine bearings, broken turbine shaft, stuff like that COULD happen if the turbo is stalled from not using a BOV, but it's not going to outright kill it if you drive with out a BOV for a few months.

And if you want to vent to atmosphere, change your MAF to a blow-through setup (search for it), you'll like it. And don't worry about people saying stuff about it screwing up the sensor, I've been running mine blow-through for 2 years now and never had an issue. I've only cleaned the MAFS once too.

Its not that bad, ive been running no bov for quite some time, (although its strictly a track car)

You should be fine without it.

A Bov IS mostly an investment, its a security factor for your turbo. But I mean T25's are cheap. Which is what I'm assuming you have but I'm not sure.

But do some research since you said this is your first turbo'd car. There's alot of little things you need to read up on. I mean its nothing crazy new compared to a N/A vehicle.

Blown turbo is the mostly the bad joo-joo I was referring to. To me, a blown turbo, no matter how cheap it is, sucks. Rebuilt T25, new gaskets, the time, etc. I'd rather pay for a good BOV.
