Well i finally got my fmic installed. And ive got some probs.....

1st.... i lost my sleeper look :(

2nd... Ive got the Hks ssqv. Works great sounds great BUT.... i cant get the car from stalling... im currently messing witht the throttle cable.... i guess ive gotta run at a higher rpm while idling.... Cause when i get on it it runs fine but once i let off the rpms keep falling... all the way till it stalls.

3rd.... The maf. On the maf.. there is a hose that leads to the bov on the smic... ive got that blocked off now... but.. doesnt look right... what did you guys use to plug this up? Ive already plugged the one on the throttle body itslef. ( heard you could use something from a dsm )

4th..... this isnt a prob its more of a question.... ive got the z32 maf with a jwt pop filter. well... i would like to use it... it came with everything as in a lot of the wireing harness from the z32. What do i do cut the wires from the sr maf and splice it with the z32 wire harness???? Also im not tuned for it , but would like to put it on for later use... that possible?

Thanks jeff

P.s i will take some pics of the fmic... looks great .. its all custom and looks perf... no battery relocation kit... no small battery... just some skill...!!!

1. Yeah that's what happens when tuning these cars.2. Your bov is probably not properly adjusted and it would definitely help to buy an SAFC. this will cure the stalling issues without totally messing up your idle.3. Well you can totally unbolt the stock recirc from the smic if you so desire.4. You will need an SAFC to use the z32 mafs.

3. what? MAF's dont have hoses going anywhere. The intake pipe does... And that line on the TB you blocked.. i think that was your idle intake.. That might explain #2

Swift -- If he has a bov and FMIC what would he need with the Recirc or SMIC?

Ok I understand what you did now, duh. The recirc hose on the inlet that you already blocked off is fine. The bov valve vacuum line should be plugged into the same spot you unplugged the stock recirc on the TB. What you are experiencing is normal and a common problem with running atmospheric bovs. The mafs is sensing the lost air everytime you come off boost (basically when the bov is going pshhh). I wouldn't suggest even attempting at adjusting the idle because the TPS is going to fight you. Buy an SAFC and take care of the problem for good.

I have no such problems with Venting ATM. and if you checkout the ATM BOV thread in the SR forum (have to search for it) most people do not have a stalling problem. I would not be so quick to accept the problem.

I'm not here to get in an argument with you, but I find this funny because every properly tuned (stock) and healthy NORMAL running SR I've seen running an atm bov has idle issues coming off the throttle during boost. Now this would be the 5th SR I've worked on, the 4th I've ridden in...

If I turn my s-afc back to stock or unplug it even I have the issue on my SR.

I'm not saying each is right or wrong and I know every SR is a little different in their own ways. But, in a perfect world on a normal SR running an atm bov on the hot side with a Mafs will stall.

If you adjust the spring to close the piston a little bit before idled state, it should stall less. I have a friend who has no AFC with a FMIC/bov and he never stalls.

Yes this solves the stalling every so slighty. However you are now causing shock to the compressor and destroying your turbo. Need I explain? If you tighten the spring on the BOV too much it won't release all (if any) of the pressurized air (boost). That pressure has to go somewhere and with the bov closed it's going to hit the compressor wheel. This will cause bad seals, shaft play, and just destroy the turbo. This is not an instantaneous problem, but it's definitely not healthy either. There really is no middle grey area in this scenario. Adjusting the bov properly will cause uncorrected idle issues, and going too tight will hurt the turbo. If you are staying at stock boost on the SR keep the damn stock recirc. It serves it's purpose flawlessly. If you are cranking the boost with a fmic, weld the bov on the cold side and keep it recirced. Or spend the money on the safc to trick the mafs or some other electronics to replace the mafs all together.

But Compressor Surge makes that awesome chirping noise!

Swift man, i wasnt trying to argue with you.. I just wanted him to checkout everything before spending $$.. Cash isnt always the answer.. And i seriously have NO stumble or hestiation, and i have no tuning what so ever.. maybe I have a tuned ecu? that would explain my rich-at-idle problem?

Hey no hard feelings Cyber.

So you were running rich at idle even with the stock recirc? If everything was completely normal and functioning properly that most likely means the rom could have been changed around. Not suprising to say the least because that kind of thing is way more accessible in Japan even for mostly stock cars. Oh well if you have zero problems with your setup then more power to ya :)

I'm atm and i have no problems with idle. I have it adjusted to stay open until right before idle. Then it closes.

As far as the Z32 MAF try to remove the pins from the plug before you cut any wires. It is ultimately a more sanitary approach.

You could always buy the $10 recir fitting and route it back into the intake after the maf before the turbo. Personally my car runs much better with it open atm. with the afc. And if I get pissed at people and thier windows are down I gun it and just as I go by them I let off the throttle. The ear piercing PSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTT, And then I look at them like,"ya MuthaaaaFu(kaaa." No....not really but...uh...you could imagine what it would be likeright??...huh?:D

Kind of off topic, but related to cool sounds. The wastegates on the twin turbo Lamborghini Diablo's sound frighteningly like gunshots when you let of the throttle. Just loud as hell, shotgun like pops from behind your head.

WARNING, NEWBIE QUESTION TO FOLLOW:

I am running stock boost on my SR with the SMIC. The stock recirc valve is hooked up. Is my turbo safe from compressor surge, or does only a blowoff valve prevent compressor surge?

The stock recirc valve on the smic IS a bov. It's just small, hidden, not shiny, and is too quiet to be cool for some people I guess...

uhm since when have lamborghinis had turbos? I know the ferrari F-50 or 40 does.I'm not trying to argue but I have never seen a turbo on a lambo. It would be nasty though! just 600 horses of finely tuned v-12 muscle the last time i checkeddid you ride in this lamborghini? oh, and if it did have a turbo you meant BOV not wastegate right? BTW: it was hella off topic! just as this is :)

The shop that I get my car worked on does custom twin turbo kits for the Diablo's. It might have been a blowoff valve, but I don't think so. I'll take a closer look at one next time I'm in the shop, and have a talk with the mechanic about whether or not he's using blowoff valves. I'm pretty sure they're just wastegates though. The cars are only running 8psi, but that still nets somewhere in the 850-900hp range.

Swift -- I went ahead and loosened my BOV spring.. just to see what would happen.. my car *definatly* tries to stall when blown off at idle.. but it gets rev-bouncy and saves itself.

So you were right, and i have a tuned ecu.

Or it could be you just had the spring too tight and now you are experiencing what is normal.

i like the spring a little tight.. but the car SAVES itself.. i tried to stall it, reved & blewoff multiple times before letting it come down.. it gets to 600rpm every time and then bounces to 1100

see you played with your rpms..... see my sr was idleing at 900 witht he smic.. and still does with the fmic. When i rev it it goes all the way down to 200 rpm or stalls.... then back up to 1000 then slowley to 900.

Mojoman, the HKS SSQV has a fitting for recirculating it? or are you talking about another valve.

right now i have the blitz ss dd, but it doesnt look like its made for recirculating.

lemme know, i will trade inmy blitz for the HKS if its true :)
