Sounds like Compressor Surge to me. Why dont you just adjust the BOV until it goes away?

BTW, The compressor blades will never spin backwards. But there is a hard force against them pushing air backwards. But not the shaft nor blades/impeller will spin backwards.

Driving this way wont be hazardous if you stay out of boost.

bov's have springs in them..if you have compressor surge which it sounds like you do then you have to tighten the spring..no worries

if the flange or weld from your hotpipe to bov is not good then you will have bad idle same for your hotpipe couplers not being tight enough

make sure you connected the vacuum line properly and it's not leaking or pinched.

get a HKS SSQV for ease of operation. hook up vacuum line and you're done.

if you drive it with surge, esp on a stock T25, don't boost. if you do, don't release the throttle quickly when shifting. let the intake use all of the boost before closing the TB.

i forgot to say that my BOV is welded on to my cold pipe. This is why I am so confused about how changing the hotpipe would effect the BOV.

Also if I were to push the car at times the BOV will sound (not loud though) so i guess this means that the spring needs adjusting, its just wierd that all of sudden it would need to be adjusted when it was working fine before

I did do that but Ill double check the line to make sure....thanks for all the replies guys, i really appreciate it.

ok i just re-read the original post that started this thread...you get a fluttering, you dont hear your bov blowing off at all? and your idle is fine? ( i was under the impression that the engine was dying out) alright..heres what you need to do..put your hand in front of the bov and rev the engine via the TB. Feel for it blowing off..rev it really high too almost like redline and see if its fluttering or if the bov is working..if the bov is not working then just adjust the spring anyways..tighten it up even though it was fine before just try it..if you feel the bov blowing off AND have the fluttering then your turbo is probably bad..you arent smoking from your tailpipe are you?

i dont think im smoking from the tail pipe but ill check in the morning. I'll also tighten up the BOV and let you all know how that works.

did you put your hand in front of the bov and rev the engine really high? did the bov blow off at all? or did the turbo just flutter? if you just got a flutter then it sounds like you arent building boost (now i know you dont build but a couple of lbs of boost in nuetral even if that but you should still be able to feel it blow off..take the car for a drive and see if your building boost while driving...did you mess with your actuator at all?

tightening the BOV will make it NOT open. that's for if you are running higher boost.

your BOV isn't working. loosen the nut and see if you get it blow off. if it's not even fluttering, your turbo isn't working. put your old **** back on and see if it works. reverse the process that you just did cause you apparently ****ed up something you weren't supposed to touch.

Problem solved: Just took apart the BOV this morning. It seems like the piston that moves up and down with the spring got stuck down...i sprayed sum wd40 on the piston and on the inside of the valve. Now its working fine just like before. i kind of feel stupid that i didnt think of doing that before. . The important thing is that everything is working good now...thanks for all the replies and inputs you guys.
