The BOV location looks normal to me. What's the big deal?

Most of the time the BOV is mounted on the cold side of the intercooler shortly before the throttle body, rather than on the hot side. I haven't seen too many mounted there, but I could just not be paying much attention =)

Many people do mount their BOV's in that location but it's not the best. Pablo is correct that a more ideal spot would be on the cold side just before the throttle body.

I didn't say anything wrong with it, before the turbo is fine...but why didn't he mount it by just before the throttle body? Now the air has to travel back to the intercooler and blow it out, and did I mention that it's HOT on that side, well, I did now. Wierd

plus the cold pipe going to the throttle body is plastic on the stock sidemount.

Just to try to defend mounting it on the hot side of the IC piping, but maybe he thought that since the I/C already cooled the air, after the throttle plate closes, all of that cooled charge will travel back through the I/C, keeping it cool. Err...it's 2:30 in the morning and that's the best I could do to defend that mounting location on the piping. If it were me, I would be afraid of the BOV not releasing pressure quick enough, you can figure out what would happen then over time.

WTF are you guys talking about. You have to remember that the turbo probably fills and empties the IC every 1/4 second at full boost. when you snap the throttle plate closed, the BOV instantly sees vacuum and opens the valve and vents the excess pressure. it all happens in probably less than a half second. You are thinking too slow...

Making too much of a big deal out of this...

Doesn't really matter which side you have it on - There are arguments for both. Some say "Put it by the TB" b/c the pressure wave starts there...other say "Put it as close to the compressor as possible" b/c you want to protect the wheel...bleh...

I don't think it matters...BUT I decided to mount mine on the hot side b/c I figure that way I'm not venting/wasting air that has already been cooled by the intercooler...I like efficiency.

And for the love of god, re-route the thing... :pface

the hot side/cold side debate his been done before, both sides have their points.

If you run a maf, you must return the vented air. BOV location does not matter because pressure is equal everywhere in a pressurized system. Unless there is a leak. Then high boost is not a problem. A BOV would never be on the hotside. Unless by hot side you mean before the intercooler. We always referred to hot side as the turbine side. Before or after the intercooler does not matter. Closer to the tb is better to minimize momentary shock - but it is virtually instantaneous.

this is not correct. You can run ATM bov on a mass air metered system. Checkout the SR fourm, look for a thread with "ATM BOV" in the title long list of people having no trouble doing this.

some tuners still use a bov to control boost (rather than a exhaust wastegate) and it is often mounted in a similar location.
