Your problem sounds similar to a problem I was having after running hard at a track last week. My BOV was actuating, but barely, and I was getting compressor surge. I was a little confused until I looked at my boost gauge, which was completely stationary. As it turned out a vacuum line popped off of a nipple and caused a leak.

If you have a boost gauge, monitor that for any abnormalities, and check and recheck all of your vacuum lines.

yes it is connected to the vaccum source along witht the disc in the line. Hooked up to a vacuum source right under the throttle body. Would it being on the cold pipe have anything to do with it? Thanks

Is that "with" or "without" a disc in the vacuum line? Are you talking about a plastic valve? Need more specific info on this.

Either way, that problem can occur with a vacuum/boost leak anywhere -- not just on that line alone.

And the BOV can be placed anywhere between the turbocharger and throttle body -- just as long as it can redirect compressed air when the TB snaps shut. I've seen them mounted on intercoolers even.

i personally would not of welded that on there in that location. the point of welding it on there would be to make it look cleaner.

here is how I did mine at first:

later on i replaced that cheap godspeed pipe with my old greddy one that was damaged in an accident. that is the only reason why i welded the BOV on it because that piece was bent to ****.

and yes, i have 2 BOV. it happens.

Personally, I think it looks clean where I have it, but thanks for your opinion. Steeda736, the vacuum filter is in the line, here is a picture of what i'm talking about:I will also check if I have any leaks anywhere.

That's what I figured you were talking about.

I honestly have no idea what that vacuum filter is for. There was one on my GST Eclipse when I first bought it. I removed it and replaced it with a straight piece of vacuum hose with no repercussions. My SR's BOV doesn't have a filter either.

Perhaps somebody can chime in on this one.

1.) that is not clean. you could make it clean though by cutting off the piece coming of the side and welding a flat plate over the hole.

2.) it no longer works as designed. the reason the bov is positioned the way it is on the greddy cold pipe is so that it catches the most air possible that bounces off the throttle when it closes.

I agree, I should cut that off and put a plate on there, but until I learn to weld it will stay like that. Just trying to get things to work proplerly for now uhh...what no longer works as it should? did i miss something?

everything still works, but the position of the bov on the cold pipe was put in that location for a reason which helped make it work better.
