Ok just curious as I sit here watching youtube I'm seeing a bunch of sr owners doing donuts and whatnot just bouncing off their revlimiter. Its my understanding that that is horrible for the engine. Am I correct? Personally I shift at 6500 rpm's to be safe and never hit the limiter.

Its not necessarily good or bad for it. The rev limiter cuts fuel and keeps you from getting into that place where your car will take on damage, but it depends on how you build it. its not safe without rocker arm stoppers, but unless your car is tuned poorly your engine can bounce off of the rev limiter. but a well tuned motor in good condition will live over 7k all day and not have problems. it will generate a tone of heat and get the worst gas mileage you've ever seen though.

Ive heard or read about rocker arm stoppers breaking the rockers on ocasion so Im afraid to ever use them. I push around 18#s of boost so I can only imagine that cutting the fuel to a motor in boost can't be good.

Well, just on the topic of the rev limiter alone, it is not a good idea to be hitting the limiter for an extended period of time. It is a fuel cut limiter, which means that the engine is being starved of gas in order to limit your revs. It doesnt take a genius to realize that starving any engine of gas is not a very good idea.

other rpm limiters or two-step launch controlls will cut the spark. This means that there is still gas flowing, which is why there is ALWAYS backfire.

Now on to the rocker arms. I cannot speak from experience, but I do know that they are one of the weakest links in the sr. I strongly recommend (actually I am buying them too as we semi-speak) rocker arm stoppers. Better safe than sorry is my motto.

again, the limiter IS a fuel cutoff. But what you feel when u hit 80 intrigues me. What gear are you in? I know there are cutoffs in 5th and I think 4th. check the gear sensor. I know that in 5th there is a cutoff at around 4.5k, but u would be doing around 115-120 mph. So it would be the question of what gear are you in?

5th gear. and i doubt i would be at 110 or 120 at 4.5k rpm. maybe 90. cuz 5th gear 70mph im at 3200ish.

hmm. I would check your 5th gear sensor. Or at least I think thats what you wanna check. I think there is another thread about someone who had a similar problem, altho I am not totally sure. Sorry for your troubles.

your best bet would be to get your ignition cut and not gas which will make big gangs and scare your neighbours

7700 sounds a little bit high to me. im pretty sure mine cuts around 7400 w/stock ecu...my car pops between shifts (thanks atmospheric rs) so i tend to bounce it 1st-2nd to keep it from falling flat, plus bouncing revs kinda reminds me of pull-out system w the gf....you know its wrong but u still do it anyway...

your just putting more wear on your engine hitting the rev limiter. but i wouldnt hit the rev limiter without any load on the wheels, could get some valve float.

....and thats why i highly recommend rocker arm stoppers. just buy circuit sports or greddy, whichever one is cheeper. will help with the rocker arms at least...

Go solid lifters and upgrade valve springs. Simple to do and no more worries of rev limiter problems. I have my limiter set to 8500rpm but revs past that in 1st just cause how fast the engine revs. Ive hit 10k rpm and no problems.

you can do burnouts and donuts without beating it off the rev limiter

Brian Crower works. I mean, his friken father is in the process of refining his 6 stroke engine (at least I am pretty sure that it is his father). thats pretty sweet. No need to go blow money on Greddy (which semi went outta business) and HKS stuff.
