Hi Gang:

Went to buy snows, sittingin the trunk & back of a niiice 1993 Q45. Threw in the car. Makes a horrible noise for 1/2 second, when starting! Runs sweet, 120k miles, no rust. Kentucky car, originally. Chain guides? A/C works, gobs of power, picking up OBD I scanner ASAP. Any thoughts?? Local matching beater locally as well, $500.00.

Thanks!!!
Mike

so you got a 93 Q45 AND snow tires for $500?

...I always thought there would be some sort of polar opposite of me when it comes to luck (I have horrid, snake-bit luck). I think I just found the anti-me. You scored. HUGE.

And yeah, personally I'd probably run some seafoam through the oil for an hour or 2, then change it with some fresh stuff and see if the noise goes away. If not, screw it, its a freemobile.

And most 93's do not have the chain guide issue so you probably lucky. Either way I wouldn't even check, not worth the work to fix it for a free car.

Could be a chain tensioner. Does it do it all the time or any time specifically? Was the car sitting for a long time?

Could it be as simple as a bad accessory belt tensioner? Either way, great score!

yup, sat for some time. Does it @ startup alwaysgrinding sound LOUD for 1 second. Also going to have somebody repeatedly start it, using a mechanic's stethoscope. Looking for OBD1 scanner as well. Keep ya posted! :yesnod .
