Yesterday i decided it was time for a change. I had a 03 Audi A4 for a daily driver, good car but incredibly boring. So i went shopping around and went to a BMW dealership. Found a mint certified 335xi sedan w/ less then 12k miles for under 30k.
Took it for a drive and it was over I was sold.

Some pics and a short poorly written review to follow:

So some 335xi specs:
Twin turbo inline 6
300hp 300lbs tq (@1500rpm)
AWD
0-60 in 5.1 seconds

So far i absoultley love the car. Plenty of power for any situation and can easily get you in trouble. It blows my anemic A4 out of the water in every aspect. The low and midrange torque make it a very fun car, and makes passing on the highway a breeze. I pin the throttle and you are well past 100 in no time.

Steering is very tight and gives very good feedback. The wheel is a little heavy at slow speeds but once you get over 30mph it steers with ease and is much more responsive.

The handling and is very sharp and neutral. There is a degree of body roll at higher speed turns such as a on/off ramp, but the chassis is solid and is very hard to upset. The ride is nice and firm while still being smooth. Not very complaint as you still feel almost every nook and cranny on the road but the suspension does a good job at making them almost unnoticeable. I hit a big bump yesterday at about 60 and it really did a good job of soaking it up and the steering and chassis didn't skip a beat. The AWD system is normally split 40/60 with a RWD bias so the car handles and feels RWD until you lose traction and the front wheels start to bite.`

The AWD system is great and can put 100% of the power to one wheel. I drove it in the rain and hit the highway yesterday. Never slipped once under any load and felt glued to the road even in harder turns at speed. I can't wait to drive it in the snow to see how it does. My A4 was great in the snow, i hope this will be too.

The i love the exterior as well. Very sharp without being gaudy. The dark Monaco blue metallic is a great color in person. And the lines are beautiful.

The interior is very nice as well. A little small but not tight. The seats are heated and very supportive, and there is lower lumbar support which now after having it I don't know how i ever drove without it. The leather is soft and very comfortable and the radio controls are easily managed once you get to know them. I do not have the Idrive thankfully.

Disappointments:

The stereo system down right SUCKS! My A4's 8 speaker system was way better Even with the 13 speaker Logic 7 system. There is no real bass and the MP3 quality with my iphone is terrible, even after changing EQ setting. This will have to be fixed aftermarket as i drive a lot and music is a big deal to me. Luckily i am not the only to make this observation and there are some good plug and play speakers available at a reasonable price . But i was still very dissapointed by this, but the inline 6 soundtrack is keeping me happy until i can get some new speakers.

The wheels although nice are a little small. A car in this trim and class should not have anything less the 18's on it. 19's would give the car a nice aggressive stance so i am going to have to buy a set. The stock 17's take away from the appearance in a big way.

All in all a great car, the best i have ever owned by far. After driving this I am fairly sure i will be buying another similar one in the future when it comes time to buy a new one. I would still buy Used certified though. there are great deals to be had and i still don't think this car is worth 45-50k new.

Yeah needs new wheels for sure. There are some great plug and play systems available from BMW tuners the safely increase boost. For like 300 bucks there is a system that increases the boost 2.5 psi which is good for 40hp and 50ftlbs. Just wanna research and make sure they are safe and the ECU can handle it. But from what i heard it pretty good. Also there is sensor i can pull the keeps the exhaust flaps open and doesn't throw codes. Good for a nice idle and cruising exhaust note.

Might have to get a M front lip for it to.

I love the way the german cars look but they are just such a pain to work on and so damn expensive. My womens dad dropped 20 for the car,and then dropped another 20-25 to have a shop build him an insane a4.It sounds like you've done your research on that car

Yeah i like the new Audi's too. Yeah thats cool about your GF's A4. Anything aftermarket can make the cars much better.
Yeah and the maintenance can really rape you. I got the free maintenance for the next 3 years it was defintley a selling point.
And I have a hatred for the price if these cars. I really don't think these cars should be anywhere near 45k new.

Not for "muscle". Needs to be like 5 liters or more for that distinction! I wouldn't consider the GTR or Supra muscle either...

15 years ago, sure. But not in a world where Camrys make 250 ft-lb.

Still a very hot car, but ''muscle'' is not a word that comes to mind to describe it. The 3 is more of a scalpel than a hammer anyway.

Congrats! gorgeous car, and drives like a dream but sadly its a bmw. i hope you are prepared for bent rims and RFT/HPFP failures.

Guys on the Bimmerfile forums wear the number of HPFP failures theyve gone through, as battle scars.

lol yeah i know about the fuel pump failures, and weak stock wheels. luckily i have 3 years free maitance, with 5 year complete warranty, i am not sure if they cover wheels but they should. I am going to get some 19's on her anyway. The fuel pump is kinda iffy though. A good thing is that BMW has extended the warranty to all the E90's 3 series HPFP to 120k miles regardless of year or warranty status, so it just might be a inconvenience, just hopefully it's doesn't happen on the highway with no where to pull over.

GRM made a good project car out of a 335 coupe.

I'd suggest checking out the mod list they had...the idea was to make a "budget" M3 beater.

Lol, in what? If it was your G he was definitely not racing. 335s are fast stock, and with a few mods can be an e92 M3 killer.

Nice car man. I actually like those wheels.

Thx for that link. It gave me some good ides and it's good to get a idea of the some of the things before i buy them. I have no idea who the quality aftermarket vendors are for this car. They have done exactly what i was planning. Exhaust, intake, some wheels, and maybe some springs and anti roll bars and a ECU adjustment. Lot's good info.

Thanks for that link too. I am seriously thinking about buying the whole speaker set. That link has a entire replacement for all 13 speakers, i think i am going to get it i can't take it anymore. I have the Logic 7 premium sound system and it blows. CD's sound ok the MP3 connection is terrible. I have spent what seems like hours trying to tweek the EQ settings. Nothing seems to work from song to song. Metal will sound good, then rap will sound terrible. Pain in the a**.

Yeah this car pulls really hard all through the powerband. the 300 ft-lb is available at 1,500 rpm and it really gets the car moving. I am really not that good of a driver so i don't push it to hard but honesty the car kinda scares me sometimes. It is a failmatic, but the steptroinc is a great auto shifter and makes the car a blast to drive even without a clutch. Would of got the 6 speed i drive a lot in downtown Chicago and there is to much stop and go for that, the steptronic isn't making me regret that decision either.

The wheels are nice they are just small. If they were 19's they would be perfect. Thanks for the comments guys i am really loving this car. Hopefully after some mods, i am going to get it to the track and see what it runs in the 1/4 maybe a autocross day at my local track It would be funny to see a sedan out there hanging with some racecars. :slap:

yeah, you can mod the 335i, but then you fry the turbos. and the HPFP :D

the m3 killer becomes the hyundai accident killer.
