hey guys, I just bought a 240sx and found this forum. Was wondering if someone could help me out with some technical issues with my car.

First.

its a 1990 240sx coupe. converted to 5-speed

1. My clutch chatters sometimes if I ride it too long from stand still to 1st gear, also when rolling on 1st gear, the car tends to rock back and forth a little. Now I was under my car the other day and noticed that the transimission crossmember, the one under the shifter is all mangled up and has only 3 of the 4 bolts installed, the 4th hole is so missaligned that you cant fit the bolt through. I heard that this crossmember is different from automatic and manual. So im thinking its putting some strees on the transmission?

2. my water temp gauge on my dash, begins to drop to cold when I am around 4k or more RPM's I dont get it, something loose?

3. my tension rod bushing on the right side cracked and leaking, could this cause my car to pull to the right? ive checked tire pressure and camber, it all looks ok.

if someone could help me out, i really appreciated it.thanks

Welcome to nico!

I have to ask for question number one how experianced are you driving a stick shift? It sounds like the clutch was over heated.

#2 on your intake manifold near the front is a single wire black connector it is attached to a lug. This is the sending unit for your gauge. If that lug is loose when the fan wind speed increases it blows on that connector and causes it to go open. If the lug is loose replace the sensor.

#3 yes the tension rod can cause a pull if it is loosing fluid. replace both of them as a set.

hey thx,

im not a whole lot experience driving stick, but then im not a noob either at it. I dont die out or ride high rpms to engage it. its beeing doing that ever since i got the car, which is less then a month ago. Maybe previous driver burnt the clutch?

and for the tension rod bushings, u think i can replace them with some used ones from another car thats not leaking? cause they kinda expensive no? like 50 bucks for one bushing?

I really wont recommend wasting the time to install used ones unless the rubber on them is shiny[would indicate they are fairly new] reason is they could split during the install since they would be weak already. Do a search on tension rods in 240 tech section there are some options for tension rods. although the factory are the best there are others aftermarket available at a reasonable price.

heres a quote from pinnacle in my sig they are 42 a pop.
